Dylan: As you wish.

Judge: As you wish.

Juror: Male.

(Seen but with no lines)

Annabelle’s Lawyer: Female.

Shane’s Lawyer: Male.

Court Worker: As you wish.

Scene opens with Annabelle in Annabelle’s bedroom. Emily enters as if she has just taken a shower. Both girls are getting dressed and doing makeup. (Room must have a bed, should also have a dresser with a mirror).

Emily: (holding two bras, wrapped in a towel as if she just got out of the shower) Push up bra or no?

Annabelle: (applying makeup, doesn’t look up) Do it.

Emily: Are you sure? I feel like it looks like I’m trying too hard.

Annabelle: Dude, you look fine. Stop worrying..

Emily: Do you think any cute boys will be there?

Annabelle: I don’t know, probably. Thats why I like partying with Lakeview kids. They have way hotter guys than we do at Pinetree.

Emily: So true. I really just want to make out with a boy. It’s been like, two months.

Annabelle: Oh my god same. (flops onto bed) Ugh, I just want a boyfriend.

Emily: Stop whining, just go for it. You always back out whenever a guy shows any interest. Remember that guy Shane we met last weekend? He was totally into you and you just blew him off.

Annabelle: Whatever. I’m actually going to do something tonight.

Emily: We’ll see about that. (Looks at clock) K it’s 10. You ready?

Annabelle: Yeah. Are you driving?

Emily: Yeah my parents gave me gas money for once. I can drive.

(Girls exit room. Scene ends)

Scene opens with Annabelle and Emily walking up to a (moderately fancy) house. Music is audible and the audience can see a couple kissing against a tree, although it is mostly dark out.

Drunk Dude: (holding a red solo cup) Hey. (in the general direction of the two girls) What’s your name?

Annabelle: Annabelle. This is Emily.

Drunk Dude: (slightly slurring) Annabelle. (shakes her hand) Welcome to my party!

Emily: Thanks! (grabs Annabelle’s arm and navigates around Drunk Dude into the house)

Annabelle: He was kinda cute

Emily: Ew no. He’s way too skinny for you.

Annabelle: Shut up! I do not like fat guys!

Emily: Whatever you say. Let’s get something to drink.

Annabelle: I just want to dance!

Emily: (annoyed) Come get something to drink with me! You know I hate dancing. You can dance after we find me a cute boy to hang out with.

Annabelle: (slightly annoyed) Fine.

(The two girls get drinks from a keg in the kitchen)

Annabelle: Here, you can go hang out with Dylan. He likes you. I’m gonna go do something actually fun instead of standing around in a corner like you want to do. (pushes through the crowd to a dark room, obviously meant for dancing. As she enters through the doorway, Shane notices her)

Shane: Annabelle. Hey.

Annabelle: Hey Shane! What’s up?

Shane: Not much. (grabs her waist) Do you want to dance?

Annabelle: Yeah. (chugs contents of her cup. Shane grabs her hand and leads her to the center of the room. They dance for a few minutes. Shane pulls a fifth of vodka out of his back pocket).

Shane: Here, have some. (hands it to Annabelle, she drinks)

(The two continue dancing and Shane continues to get Annabelle drunk, without ever drinking himself).

Annabelle: (turning to face him, wrapping her hands around his neck. There is a slightly noticeable slur to her words) You’re so cute.

Shane: (Laughs slightly) Thanks babe. (The two kiss. Shane leads Annabelle to a room across the hall. He locks the door. They continue kissing and end up on the bed in the room)

Annabelle: (Takes a drink of vodka. Slurring slightly more as she speaks) Look, Shane, you’re awesome and really hot but I don’t want to do this.

Shane: Do what, baby?

Annabelle: (laughs nervously) I don’t know, haha. I just want…

Shane: Hey, hey. It’s okay. We’ll take it slow. Whatever you want babe. (kisses her lightly) Let’s turn the TV on.
Annabelle: Haha, okay.

Shane: Here, let’s play “ten fingers.” If you put your finger down you have to take a shot.

Annabelle: Okayyy.

Shane: Do you want to go first?

Annabelle: No, you. It was your idea.

Shane: Okay. Never have I ever kissed a guy.

Annabelle: That is so cheap! You knew I’d done that! (drinks) Okay fine, never have I ever been to Germany.

Shane: Nope. Never have I ever wore makeup.

Annabelle: You do stupid ones. (Drinks) I’m tired. Can we go to sleep?

Shane: Sure. (She passes out)

(The audience see’s that Annabelle passes out on the bed, and we see Shane begin to undress her before the scene ends by a fade to black)

Scene opens in a court room. Shane is the defendant and Annabelle is the prosecutor. Emily is sitting behind Annabelle, she is slightly crying.

Shane’s Lawyer: The defense calls Annabelle Kingsley to the stand.
(Annabelle goes to the witness stand)

Judge: Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Annabelle: Yes.

Scene opens again in the court room.

Judge: Has the jury reached a verdict?

Juror: We have, your honor.

(Court worker takes piece of paper to judge, she reads it.)

Judge: In the case of Annabelle Kingsley versus Shane Anderson, with the charge of rape in the second degree, how does the jury find the defendant?

Juror: We find the defendant not guilty, your honor.

  1. 1. Main subject is that you have to be careful in life.
    2. Twisted
    3. Not guilty
    4. This piece is like a Law and Order show because of the issue of rape.
    5. I would check the character description of Shane, it says he belong to the "School Muscular and fit". I thought this was a good story and the ending was something that the reader wouldn't have expected. I might add more to the ending as well.

  2. 1. The main subject and main theme of this play is about how a guy gets a girl drunk and when she passes out she gets raped.

    2. Sad

    3. "Juror: We find the defendant not guilty, your honor."

    4. My favorite part of this piece is how realistic it is and how it kept me super interested the whole time. I didn't want it to end!

    5. This piece is like real life because this does happen, not necessarily in our town, but it does happen.

    6. I really can't think of anything else you could focus on. I thought it was extremely good. The best one I have read so far.
